Expert in R&D Components Purchasing (Telecom)
Just now we have a request from one of our Swedish clients for an Expert in R&D Components Purchasing (Telecom).
Please note: This assignment is based in Stockholm. There is 50% international travel required for this assignment. This can be a long term assignment. Initially it is for 3 months.
Background:
To support their competitive product and market position, our client wants to achieve a higher level of internal operational efficiency and improved supplier management. To achieve these goals, they would like to reduce their sourcing cost/ lead time and level of part numbers.
Overall in this assignment, you will be:
- Involved in R&D company level management
- Responsible for component supply management (Strategic Sourcing) related to supply cycle, supply mode, supply risk, supply volume, new components maturity and quality risk.
- You will be working to increase the reuse of product components and supply flexibility and to reduce the supply risk
- You will also be working to continuously reduce cost
Responsibilities:
Ecosystem best practice and Benchmark analysis. Involving work with:
- mainstream product component (such as processor, memory etc) specifications/ suppliers
- component (such as processor, memory etc) optimized library/ roadmap database
- mainstream product component evolution planning
- cooperation with suppliers to achieve a more efficient design
- establishing the level of assistance that can be obtained from component suppliers to support component life cycle evolution, design improvement and product development
- product design methods for component replacement, replacement cycle analysis, tolerance design methods, design method for reuse
- deciding how to establish the specifications during the component selection process
- strategy for components of stop production
Component P/N management:
- methods and procedures for the establishment of company-wide and product line-level optimization library; guide, evaluate and control selection of new product component selection processes and methods, tools
- component life-cycle management, coordinate component evolution and product upgrades and evolution;
- procurement risk management, such as price, supply, quality, inventory, etc.
- Metrics or KPI Design
Establish a collaborative approach between procurement, R&D and suppliers.
Place requirements on R&D for the sourcing and provide R&D design rule for procurement
Cooperate with global services in general and HW services in particular in regard to sourcing strategies, supplier agreements, technology and acquisition planning
Qualifications Required:
- 10 years experience procurement (Strategic Sourcing) department expert or manager. Have lead the components selection for such as wireless, networking product design
- Familiar with the key communications product components, such as IC (processor, memory, FPGA, etc.), connectors, cables, power supply etc
- Familiar with the major communication products
- Familiar with PDM, ERP and other enterprise IT management systems
- Familiar with the relationship and communication between the purchasing, product management department and R&D design departments. Have experience in cooperating with product management and design, in regard to securing a design and the suppliers, to support solutions with dependable life time (e.g selecting components from the embedded roadmap) and high quality
- Understand how to secure designs with few LTB?s (Last Time Buys - or LTB?s with dependable notice), second source strategies and requirements for spare part management
- Familiar with the sourcing process, VPA, GOPA, how to secure reliable suppliers (quality, lead time, price etc), agreements to secure spare part management and service agreements.
- Familiar with components supplier management, design rules for procurement
- Familiar with local procurement strategy
- Experience in R&D cooperation strategy with components supplier
Duration: Initially for 3 months. This can be a long term assignment.

Place: Stockholm (50% international travel is required for this assignment).
